Affiliate disclosure
Secondlook is free to use and funded by affiliate commissions. Some links to retailers are affiliate links, placed through Amazon Associates, the eBay Partner Network and Awin, and we earn a commission if you buy through one. It never costs you more. No advertising runs on the site at the moment; if that changes, the privacy policy will say so first.
Being exact about what that money does and does not influence, because a vague answer here is worth nothing:
- It does not touch the diagnostics. What a test measures, whether it passes and how a machine is scored are computed from the Mac in front of you. No retailer, network or commission is an input to any of it.
- It does influence the shopping suggestions. Where several are relevant we show only a few, and the better-paying ones are shown first. That is a real bias and you should read those panels knowing it.
As an Amazon Associate we earn from qualifying purchases.
What this tool is
Secondlook is a set of browser-based checks that help you spot common hardware faults in a second-hand MacBook. It is an aid to your own judgement, not a professional inspection or a certification.
No warranty
The diagnostics are provided "as is". Browser APIs cannot see inside a machine: a test can pass on a Mac that still has an intermittent fault, a failing SSD, water damage or a hidden lock. A pass here is not a guarantee that a Mac is sound, and the suggested price deductions are rough guidance, not a valuation.
You are responsible for your own purchase decisions. We accept no liability for any loss arising from a device you buy, sell or decline after using this site.
Terminal commands
Our guides include read-only macOS commands that report a Mac's status. Only run commands on a machine you own or have the owner's permission to inspect, and read each one before you run it.
